Any task that can be solved by getting an ML-powered bot to talk to a human on the phone should probably be turned into a website, and probable was, a decade ago. Why are you asking your phone to call a restaurant and not using opentable?

Are we though? Most of what I do all day has nothing to do with voice (and never has in the history of humankind). Trying to turn everything into a voice command is unnatural and (to Benedict's point) inefficient

Matt, I hear ya. I would suggest that human evolution is the example. We evolved the phonological loop in the brain that literally is a “voice in our head” dictating everything we write or read. Voice is the prima fascia. Mechanical interactions are far down the chain.
