This graph is unfair to #voicefirst - it's adoption has been faster than this shows.
To me this is the adoption of #smartspeakers, a consequence of voicefirst. Let us not forget our friend #siri and the impact it had on @Apple #iPhone 4s sales
Interesting nonetheless. thanks

A chart that showed VUIs or digital assistants would indeed be different, but smart speakers represent the first true
#VoiceFirst device. (I agree with@BrianRoemmele that “smart speakers” is limiting as a term, but it has great value as a category for this reason.)

Remarkable chart, Brian. I wonder how much of smart speaker growth is driven by the low cost, relative to the other products listed. Most people I know have the small devices, and it seems like growth picked up when those were released.

The start date should be with the Voice Navigator shipping at MacWorld boston in 1991. Or even 1984 with both Macintosh and Commodore already speaking

Indeed
#VoiceFirst adoption rapid but there is that pesky fine print - what if the 'net were also measured in households? We only bought it once for my family.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

what is the source for the representation in the graph that 50% of U.S. population owns a smart speaker?

Huh?! Nowhere near 50% of Americans own/use a "smart speaker". TechCrunch & Newsweek put the number near 20%. The deck this is from says 17% a few slides later. Also, its been 3.5 years since Alexa/Echo launched (Nov '14), not over 5 as this indicates. This is garbage "data".pic.twitter.com/HMyYrdia32
