Presuming ‘smart home’ happens, and it’s all one system, and controlled by voice... how much does that matter more broadly? It might be generic low-margin Shenzhen white boxes with a voice UI that adds very marginally to Prime retention, iPhone repurchase or Google...something.

There’s a lesson here in the tactical victory but strategic irrelevance of Kindle Fire (note how the Alexa isn’t called ‘Kindle Fire Voice’). If all Alexa does is to give everyone a free Lutron setup... what does Amazon get out of that?

Benedict, indeed. When seen with the backdrop of over 10,000 folks just working on Alexa at Amazon, the premise of Alexa as purely a “Smart Home” play, it would be no victory. But as the next natural interface to AI mediated computing, it is a profound first step and a huge lead.

Specifically, in your opinion why will voice be the next platform? Benedict believes it won't - and I agree with a lot of his points. Also see how confident you are that it will be the next natural interface.
