It was July 7th, 1936 and this is the rare film of the first public broadcast of Television. The RCA transmitter top of the Empire State Building broadcast the strongest TV signal—cast terrestrially and in to space. The informal content is like a 1936 “YouTube video”.pic.twitter.com/UF8jZENEX5

When you present videos like this, could you also provide the link to the full video, please? If possible, of course. Thanks!

Mitzi, thank you. I will need to digitize the entire film. I try to do a search if it is online but it is usually not. @Twitter currently limits me to 2:20 and I try to capture the essence. I hope to get full video up when there is time.

        A) it’s worth noting this innovation happened when America was in the throes of the Great Depression; and B) it’s my hope that all future tech innovations are introduced with a dramatic orchestral fanfare.

Possibly first in America, but certainly not THE first. And since TV and broadcast technology evolved over time, there is as much debate as to what IS television as what was the first broadcast.

My first TV camera cost $100,000 and that was in 1981. This is awesome. Please do tell us where you found this.
