It was December 31st, 1999 nearing 12 midnight and the world was ready to hold their collective breath. Why? The Y2K bug. It was hyped to a level of world ending fear. Millions of folks got a month’s supply of water and food and waited. This was 20 years ago today.pic.twitter.com/zaEeZxB7w7

All the computers were supposedly going to crash or be rendered obsolete... all types of 2k Preparatory items and NOTHING happened at all, like nothing! That’s when I knew...

My coworkers and I put in several man-years of checks and reworks to make sure nothing happened (it was necessary!) Half a year later we had 1 small report we'd overlooked. We discovered it because it crashed then. LOL!

It was a vadid concern. A lot of effort was put by engineers to make sure that everything would work properly.

I intentionally left my computer on and online (dial up) expecting Y2K bug. Went to a party that had https://youtu.be/y6120QOlsfU  on repeat. Came back home next morning, computer was just ok.

A lot of work by a lot of dedicated technicians did a whole lot to reduce that possibility regardless, so to say it was hyped up beyond what was potentially catastrophic was not hype! As a tech at the time, it was very real problem unforseen in the prior decade! Bad reporting!
