Sorry but Im not buying that. It’s patently nonsense that an educated person in 16th cent. only had the volume of knowledge equivalent to a single copy of the NYT. There were clerics/monks , philosophers , doctors , scientist, mathematicians, etc

Also we may be defining information quite narrowly here. We absorb information from our environment, our social interactions, our work, our lives. Sure most people were not reading or watching YouTube but they were working and feeling and interacting
