In its annual report, research institute AI Now argues that emotion recognition should be banned when it impacts people's lives. The NYU Institute is calling for laws to limit emotion-detecting algorithms. I have used AI emotional intent extraction for a >decade and agree fully.pic.twitter.com/wjUgNcXQl2

This is a hot issue at NeurIPS b/c of 2 peer-reviewed posters that were admitted to the conf. 1 has tech merit (GANs), but content is controversial (emotion + politics). Content oppo has dicey censorship issues IMHO & but most don't see it as censorship. Ethics debate is ongoing.

That is an incredibly interesting sentiment, I understand it would be a breach into ones own thoughts, but this could expand on helping people who need assistance expressing themselves. Would you take that ability away from those it could help?Who is to say they have the right?

I took a bunch of hits on here for trying to protect the rights of minorty opinions (no matter how unpopular). I firmly believe that the discussion needs to occur b/c the tech is here. I don't know if it will remain civil, but still needs to happen. It us dual use tech +.
