My parents made the big mistake of buying me a Lafayette Comstat 6 CB in 1971. And putting it in my bedroom. I was on the damn thing all night talking to truckers on the NJ turnpike and local friends. It was real time interaction. Loved when the truckers said their destinations.

Comstat 23 MarkVI. Ran out of characters. NJ Tpk was 2 miles from our house. My local CB friends and I (in Jr High at the time) loved talking with those drivers, imagining where they had been and where they were going. A fair number of them were women, BTW.

When I was in high school, I had a CB handle (amongst schoolmates) even though I did *not* have a CB radio.
