actually the answer was already answered without the sky. The 1983 arrival of Etak. A computerized dead reckoning system that worked great. I had one installed in my car and it was as good as anything since for getting you there.

John, yes! Etak. I did not use it but it seemed to work well in some areas. It was just not aware of most roads in many cases. It is interesting how these systems have evolved.
