It was 1991 and Xerox PARC invented pinch + zoom & multitouch—over a decade before it became widely known. In this specimen video we have a stunningly unique new user interface that in some ways may be more useful today. A surreal portal back in time to a future—that wasn’t.pic.twitter.com/oQmCUgoKaZ

Z, great question. This is a Xerox PARC engineer playing out a simple senerio for an internal video presenting the early elements of the technology to be used in epoch “1990s”. It was trying to solve the real world problem of paper management that frankly still exists today.

I was wondering what her name is, what happened later on in her career!

Z, thanks for asking. This is Linda Malgeri and I don’t have current details but she went on to create many things at Xerox. Unfortunately this project was canceled and remained secret for quite a long time.

Wong, thank you! Indeed they collaborated with University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. A great paper. This was awesome technology.
