The system remained in place in some countries until the late 2000’s. Couple of questions though: How thorough was the cleaning system? And did the new system save all the water used for washing? Lastly, did the regulations force Coke to migrate to the aluminum system?

Alain, thanks for asking. The bottles were cleaner then when they are first manufactured. The water was not recycled but the cleaning baths used most of the water. The reason it stoped was aluminum industries had much more political powered and connected to military production.

I would be happy to subscribe to any newspaper that will take one paper back every time they deliver one.

I remember reading stories about how Coke and Pepsi tried to hurt each other by buying up the rival bottles and destroying them instead of returning, in order to kill the supply.

not all over the world. Norway
has over 90% recycling rates on plastic bottles (and alu cans). Give the bottles themselves $ value and they will be recycled. https://www.sciencealert.com/norway-s-recycling-scheme-is-so-effective-92-percent-of-plastic-bottles-can-be-reused/amp …Thanks. I've seen them make a comeback but they cost 30% more. I'd be happy to return them if I knew where. On a side note. I feel like Coke from a glass bottle tastes better for some reason. Maybe it's imported.

My Uncle made bank by opening a bottling plant and getting the contract to make Coke and many other brands. I remember going on a tour and seeing the whole process from bottle sterilization through filling and capping.

That system is still alive and going strong in Mexico. Return a crate of bottles and buy a crate of cokes for a significantly cheaper price. The bottles that are returnable / reusable are made of thicker glass than you see in the US today.
