The 1997 lost @JeffBezos video. Why start @Amazon with just book? The reason is quite quite interesting. We are seeing the same thought process play out with Alexa. Just like in 1997, many folks today in the tech industry are flummoxed by how this all happens.pic.twitter.com/aVA3T7o63p

So, is the analogy: Alexa is to IoT devices what amazon was to books? So the statement becomes: "if you can control a device using a more traditional method, you probably should" - it just so happens many, many devices do not have screens or touchpads - thus, Alexa.

John, Indeed! This & more. It will extend to commerce as the new 1-click shopping cart system, a system Jeff invented. He is inventing #VoiceCommerce right in front of our eyes and the folks that say they understood ecommerce in 1997 tend not to understand #VoiceCommerce in 2019.

I find voice commerce to be somewhat inferior. Requires recall (knowing what you already want to buy) rather than recognition (browsing). Assuming Amazon’s goal isn’t to decide what to buy for us on our behalf ;) with Alexa as final confirmation.

Neil, I hear ya. 80% of purchases are of things you already know. As the intelligence and high context grows, you just say “Order some paper towels, toilet paper, milk, butter, etc.”. This is very powerful and is already happing, Jeff is doing not again.

Haha, well I guess I don't understand either :-) I see an analogy to between devices and books, but not so much with ordering stuff. I find everything I want to buy (much more than I want to buy, in fact) can be done fine with traditional means.
