Well Apple devices would be too expensive for a giveaway promotion and they didn't originally offer access to Spotify...plus they would attempt to switch the user to Apple Music. Amazon would be a reasonable partner but are now number 3 globally for music streaming providers.

The competitive angle is what I'm most curious about... where can Spotify go when most of the voice assistant hardware companies offer competitive music streaming services.

the lowest churn paid subs across streaming access music via the most # of devices; the highest LTV customers want ubiquity not a walled garden

We are moving toward another walled garden era right now. However, if you don’t know which garden will win or if many will survive, serve all of them and make the best of it since Spotify can’t likely win the Garden wars.

well, if I can express my desire, as citizen, as music listener/maker, as (conversational app) designer/developer, I'd like to return to the web paradigm (== tech/business outsides the walled gardens).

You may have to create that for yourself if you really want it.

What do you mean Bret? Building a new castle is not my goal. Business (not only music) goals of big players wallet gardens conflicts with people freedom. Maybe private/private wallet gardens are a better option, in the way

My point was simple. If you want a voice ecosystem that is not a walled garden you may have to build it yourself as no one else seems interested in this approach today. If consumers truly want an independent ecosystem, it will be an astounding success.

Well, In the long term, do consumers want a pay-for-everything wallet garden (voice) web? I don't think so. Now in Italy, speaking of smartspeakers skills, there is a strong rising concern about big players non respect for privacy, that involves both private citizens and brands.

Consumers want the assistant, and for the same reason they ignore privacy to get email free, and other amz/google/fb services they ignore these issues. The assistant and it'sutility is the draw. At the end of the day people are either not informed, or don't care.

Well aware, thats why we have spent so much time investing our own NLP and working with folks like you. The next phase do digital won't be about how good your mobile app is, it will be how much utility your assistant has.
