A great call with an east coast physician’s group. A member saw my Tweet and asked my advice.
The result?
200 Pixel 4 phones no Cellular.
Use them as doctor transcription system.
Cost saving projected?
~$2 million dollars first year.

Are there any concerns with HIPAA or is the "no cellular" aspect to this the way around it since nothing would go to the cloud?

Dave, great question. It has blanket HIPPA in the way we are using it. However there are things Google needs to change for commercial use. The company will need to change the way it works and lose the arrogance if they want this to succeed. They don’t know what they have here.

Thanks, Brian! After attending the
@TheVOHSummit last year, it became pretty apparent to me that one major#VoiceFirst use case in the medical setting is medical note dictation/transcription. Hoping this can one day be commercially available.@DrTeriFisher@bmetrock2 replies 0 retweets 3 likes -

There are others already doing this, this is not something new, what’s exciting is the quality of the Google app. Here’s a recent example:https://appleinsider.com/articles/19/10/12/california-doctors-to-record-patient-visit-notes-with-apple-watch …

Andy, indeed. That utility is not fully HIPPA complaint. There are also other issues to this system.

What type of MDM solution will this physicians group use to manage 200 mobile devices?

Andy, great question. They have used Simple MDM with full HIPPA. However there will be other options. The systems will be locked down to each doctor and one support staff. With other previsions. I am advising no WiFi and no cellular for these devices. Just Bluetooth local.

I assume Android devices have similiar management functionalities as iOS? Lost mode, self-destruct, etc?

Andy, indeed. To some degree. One step I advise is only mention patient numbers and no names—ever on any systems. I started this convention in the 1990s.
