#InternetLinguists:
Do you know of any research on the double space after a period phenomenon?
This is something I have strong feelings about but don’t know why.
Fellow twitter friends, do you type a double space after periods? Why or why not...

The double space goes way back. Called the “French space” I believe. Way back/throw back - was taught in school as proper in typing classes. Tough habit to break if embedded in former typewriter habits.

@GretchenAMcC, guru of all things#internetlanguage... would you be able to shed any light on the post-punctuation double space? Apparently book editors seem to be up in arms about it (?)@BrianRoemmele@SJW75 what reasoning are your editors using to steer you away from it?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like
Brielle, Thanks for asking. I think it is a newer convention. Not quite like using emoji in books yet but seems to be on that path. My eye likes the indicators to new sentences as I speed read. I can triple my speed if the sentence onset is high. Editors think of paper cost too.
