Google is basically liquidating their #GoogleHomeMini supply ahead of the holidays to make way for sales of the #NestMini. How much are Google & Amazon spending on devices to win the #VoiceComputing war? https://www.spotify.com/us/premium/?utm_source=Spotify_premiumupsell&utm_medium=house_email&utm_campaign=2019q4_premiumbusiness_us_googlehomemini&utm_content=us_en_amer_email_wave1_test … /cc @bretkinsella #ConvCommpic.twitter.com/KcjfV3S9Q5

Spotify ran a Google Home Mini giveaway promo in the UK last Q4 and they attributed it to substantially beating their plan for new subscribers. They the. Started running it in the US in Q1. This one is about Spotify more than Google.

      It's a curious collaboration given @youtubemusic or @GooglePlayMusic though isn't it?

Isn’t Spotify just paying for the devices?

Folks, I would suggest both parties are subsidizing these devices. There are more of these situation up soon. One very big one.

For sure. Mini and Echo Sot are sold at a loss below $30 on a unit cost basis

The loss on these products is primarily what I'm curious about... seeding the market for voice by giving these devices away at or below cost, and in this case, literally for free.

Chris, great point. The thing is many folks assume that this is like an OS war from the past and thus they will play out that game theory. In the end most of these devices will be free, or you will be “paid” to use them for a while. We live in interesting times.
