ISO 7816-1 (on which EMV is based) states that cards must stand up to 1,000 flexes. Will a solid gold card stand up to that type of abuse? How about the Apple Card? http://www.ttfn.net/techno/smartcards/iso7816123.html …

Steven, Great question! Indeed, I suspect this is based on the arc of a flex. When we pass the tensile point of the metallics it will go to a linear crease. I think some fudge factors are at play for these types of cards. Indeed the EMV chip will likely pop out also.
