Steven, Great question! Indeed, I suspect this is based on the arc of a flex. When we pass the tensile point of the metallics it will go to a linear crease. I think some fudge factors are at play for these types of cards. Indeed the EMV chip will likely pop out also.

Keep in mind that in rest of world cc cards are chip+pin based and waiters bring the POS terminal to the table, so isn’t an issue of theft. USA is the problem space and we didn’t do CHIP+pin because ppl have many cards here,forget their pin, reset calls $10, more than fraud
