I knew Gerard from Princeton University and the Space Studies Institute. I also worked on the mass driver in the summers. The Alloys were already in the hands of folks for a few decades and every few years they would be passed around for study. How it started:
In 1986 got the IBM PC AT up to ~50MHz—the fastest PC in the world.
I took a call from a scientist at Los Alamos Labs who ordered 2000 Speed Injectors.
We talked hours about a project on the composition of found Alloys.
We met in Princeton with Gerard O’Neill. pic.twitter.com/nvkMx4m34W
