If I was working with Microsoft on the Surface Earbuds projects, I would have embraced (if I could not change their minds) the obvious similarities to gauge ear plugs and the wide potentials of counter culture band signaling that would have lifted it past the current image.https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1179441388678631424 …

Many folks have asked me about the design ethos around the Microsoft Surface Earbuds. Well it is not nearly my sort of signaling. However this design telegraphs the gauge ear plugs that I came to know in the @VansWarpedTour in the early 2000s. There is that vibe... https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1179436126240534528 … pic.twitter.com/iF5wGfZwXA

You have to think given where MS is located they knew what they were doing right? And yet that design feels niche-y to me.

Mark, indeed. Beyond niche. But trying my best to squeeze lemons that they served up. It is not lemonade time for Microsoft.

I’m a little confused by all these products tbh. Microsoft sells all these products used by tens of millions —> around a billion. And has this weird hardware division with things that don’t / won’t reach 5M a year in sales. Why? To prop up the retail stores?
