Maybe it's just me, but I don't think privacy concerns are unreasonable. And while I don't see the companies themselves fixing them (there is no incentive), I do see potential for a 3rd party to offer fixes & capitalize on the opportunity to ensure privacy.

Julie, thank you! This is one way to solve the issue. A startup would not have the endless meetings that constrain fundamental principles. When new domains and product categories are defined it usually takes independence from a large company for full success.

Isn’t Amazon and Google’s credibility already shot? Dependability build true trust. Their shenanigans over the years for their profit has eroded their credibility with regards to privacy for those that are privacy conscious.

This should be a non-issue. It's not going to matter who produces the hardware. Google Chrome and Amazon Shopping will be available apps to install. And I'm willing to bet that half of these Orwellian fearmongers have an Echo or Assistant in their homes.
