Max, great question. Indeed like most software skeuomorphs they do not directly behave like the objects they simulate. However the skeuomorph is a card, it does not need to be a card in a non skeuomorph environment, but this gives the user a connection to the real world card.

That term has been beaten to death, I guess my point is you could make the same point without pointing out to be a skeuomorp, it’s just a nice representation of the card with an added heat map.
