This is depressing and scary but military adoption often leads -- if I am reading this correctly, these same plasma balls could also be used, for example, to project voice assistance in theatres or parks or stores over distances of tens or thousands of meters.

Fred, Indeed. There are ethical uses and there are non ethical uses. The technology has been around since the 1960s and some V2K situations may have caused a high level of victims. Knowing how it works and that it exists is important. Finding ethical uses vitally is important.
