The uniformity in thinking and lack of debate or contrarian viewpoints. We’re all saying similar things about voice, growth, design and its affects on search/e-commerce/marketing, but not enough critical thinking about what’s holding back voice, how we expand usecases, etc.

So, what is the contrarian viewpoint you would put forward? What is holding it all back?

Tasks are the wrong abstraction for people to be aware of, they should associate a brand and an assistant with a domain which contains the relevant tasks To a certain extent, we are seeing Skills “hacked” to behave like this, Capital One Eno on Alexa as an example

Not thAt people will not just start saying “book me a flight” and master agent won’t route that appropriately, but it’s not going to be this atomized SEO style bidding system, just personalization. I.e. I know what I mean by book me a flight is talk to the Hopper rabbit assistant

I continue to believe that while apps are being chopped up and turned inside out, the trust and customer relationship model where you have a stable of brands you interact with loyally for various domains will persist in voice for a long time

Agree with a lot of this. I think abandoning the mental model of "apps" with Skills/Actions is turning out to be a problem. The other day my Echo Show displayed "Skills are like apps for Alexa" which feels like an acceptance of this gap.

Gentlemen, great stuff! Mark, this is a massive problem for the user. Most of multimodal is a very lazy approach to a very solvable problem. The issue is supporting non linear approaches that usually require folks that do not think like most programmers.
