This is a slippery slope, and ultimately a negative for the #VoiceFirst movement. It may have saved a life, but it is a huge violation of privacy.

Indeed. This is the confluence of many really bad scenarios. The folks building this stuff need to really think things through on how history has played out and will play out.

They guy said “Alexa, please send the cops round to arrest me”? I find this very hard to believe. I’m sure she dialled 911 from her cellphone.

The headline makes it sound like Alexa decided to call 911. AFAICT it acted as though it was being told to call.

Reading this it seems to be a fortunate coincidence they needed help. This doesn’t seem to be a situation for praise. It’s either inaccurately reported, or there is a real issue with a system that doesn’t need to be invoked to act. Possibly both.

These devices are listening to EVERYTHING. This is the ultimate surveillance, when you don’t even need to be using the app for them to collect information on you. This is very concerning!

Alexa can’t call 911. I have personally tried.
