1/2 Despite 10,000 working on #Alexa: - only 2% of people have ordered anything, 90% never ordered again - Alexa Uber rides are in the 100s/day - Alexa for Business has largely failed, Wework stopped trial after 2 mos - Best Western guests turn it off on checkin more than use it

We are all missing the killer app that will launch voice like email did for the web. It was more about a global recipe for the iPhone with a slower traction from apps foursquare Shazam tap tap ... what is voice? What is hands free? What is life without constraints?

Comparatively the app ecosystem for iPhone drove much more engagement and repeat usage beyond the core apps. That’s why #amazon reports number of skills as a primary metric rather than non-media usage stats.

Folks, we are at the Apple I stage (it had over 100000 skills written in basic) of the #VoiceFirst revolution. When Steve said everyone would own a computer in 1976 it took up to the iPhone in 2010 or so for that to become nearly a reality. Thus we are in very early days.

I agree with @BrianRoemmele. Long term this is an inevitability. The bigger point may be where Alexa has disadvantages. Google has phones, apps on laptops, and OS. That gives them a considerable advantage in multimodal and cross-use voice data and applications.

I see similar trends to Brian and just reported on the Alexa skill slowdown. Right now we are in the phase of streamlining things that are already possible but are easier with voice. Truly new use cases may take some time to emerge. The trough of disillusionment is almost here.

Means it will take 30 more years until it hits the scale & impact of computers/smartphones?
