Thanks for asking! I think the path to local based memory will sky rocket over the next 20 years. The best candidate for this is laser based crystal memory. The technology has great promise for Peta Byte storage that can survive just about anything with no data decay.

1TB? Pretty sure all of that would git on a 4GB DVD from 2000 with plenty of room to spare, text doesn't take much space digitally

Tom, indeed. There were images and double sided hand written notes on some records. I think we are closer to 1TB with medium resolution.
