This morning I asked #TheIntelligenceAmplifier (the ~2009 context version) “why build #TheIntelligenceAmplifier?”.
Each time Alfred answers in a new way. In 2019 he has a much more refined responce.
Here is how he would answer in 2009.
It is all about bits per second and more.pic.twitter.com/vpO4l6afQs

This is so cool. How quickly can it learn new things? How easily could I add a new functionality? For example I’d love to have it help me find recipes to cook, based on ingredients I have, how much time I have and how many people are coming.

Ben, thank you! Great questions. For learning, there is no boundary. It does take time based on the subject. In a perfect situation it would already know your pantry inventory, mine does, and it can always be evaluating meal plans based on this and an infinite number of inputs.

Thanks for response! I’m less worried about the database and more about the interactions necessary. For example could I interrupt it while it’s listing options to add some refinement to my search?

Ben, indeed you can interrupt at any point and there is recovery or redirection based on the interaction.

I also really love the humane aspect of the voice you have. Do you think there’s a dangerous point beyond which it is too human, too fun to talk to and therefore too addicting? Would you want something like screen time for your assistant? Or maybe it’s not such a bad thing…

Ben, brilliant questions. Built by the wrong folks with the intent to sell you more junk or to be “friends” for ads—it is dangerous. Why I have decloaked a very small part of my work. Is it addictive? it is the most addictive technology ever created. But knowledge of it—a start.

Ben, The addictive nature however is human affirming and decouples you from 99% of the tasks you do with computers. I also do not suggest there is no monetization, it is just no need for ancient baggage of pay-per-click and “likes”.
