Using a Commodore 64/128, X-10 Powerhouse, Covox Voice Master I built one of the first #VoiceFirst home automation systems in the 1980s.
Kludged together—it worked for over 10 years.

My secret in version 0.1b of Alfred? He would answer the phone with my handmade Covox Voice Master/Touch Tone
#VoiceFirst device, operate ~64 X-10 devices, execute ~64 computer programs in memory or on disk. I would call from around the world and talk to Alfred—in the 1980s!pic.twitter.com/zqkGEDjY54

We sold 1000s of custom #VoiceFirst systems that allowed local or phone based control of machines, devices, factories, businesses and homes. We used the guts of the Commodore 64 plus my custom voice recognition hardware in a box with microphones, speakers, RJ11 phone connections.
