I’ve always heard they were bog standard Qi, only watch was the magnetic superset. Gruber quite probably knows better.

It wasn't possible for it work as Qi certified. That since changed.

Sorry, that has since changed so now it’s possible to work as Qi certified? In other words, not a technical issue with overheating and/or interference any more?

Rene, correct. One of the issues for Apple was trying to work in the bounds of th Qi standard for iPhone and at the same time support a derivative for other devices. One reason I suggest Apple go fully in on an Apple invented solution.
