A thing I learned experimenting in my garage lab with inductive charging is the shape of the wave form and the way the pulse is timed over a duty cycle. I am no battery expert, just some guy, but this solves many temperature gradient issues I have come across.

Thus with 3 inductive coils, one can sequence the pulses in a pattern that adjusts to the type of device on the coils. The wave form should also be shaped over the cycle and also for each type of battery that is charged. You can not have 3 coils active at the same interval.

If Apple were to lead with a new standard for inductive charging, many heat related issues could be solved. Of course with 3 inductive coils pulsed and wave shaped there will be a longer charging cycle for iPhone, but not enough to make it notable.

Now I need to find a good wireless watch charger...
