Folks I feel so strongly about the lack of understanding about the psychological, philosophical, anthropological aspects this Alexa promotion creates to users that I will fly up to Washington or Cambridge UK paying on my piggy bank and give a day of my time for FREE to present.https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1106603215267586048 …

Maybe a miscue or maybe a new discovery feature which could be helpful. Amazon says definitely "not an ad" so the question is how people respond. Let's all recognize ads are already present. The issue isn't advertising per se, it's context.https://voicebot.ai/2019/03/15/did-amazon-alexa-start-serving-ads-promoting-fortnite-in-the-uk/ …

The twitterverse is passionate about this one. You're spot on with context. Question is should I have to give first party permission as in permission based marketing in a trade for utility? I don't see a world where advertising isn't present, but I would at least like an opt-in

Smart speakers are the ultimate pull- based devices. There might be room for this kind of thing if you explicitly ask ‘Alexa, give me some fortnite hints’, but not randomly tagged onto an unrelated query.

Kane,Yes! This is it precisely. In studying this since the 1980s, advertising and promotion specifically, it is clear to me how these things need to play out. Guessing at it or not establishing a paradigm to the system will deeply impact trust and authority of Alexa.

So many implications from inserting of promotion to marketing to kids because of the household make up and then damage to trust, abandonment, etc. More proof that Voice cannot be a lift and shift of what is done in other channels. Our margin of error is still thin in spots.
