The “telegraph” mentality was grounded in the ideas that a certain technical class should be the gate keeper to access. They created an arcane language that allowed for this exclusivity. It was “rude” of Mr. Bell to allow “just anyone” to communicate. Past, present, prologue.https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1104774187019776000 …

The “Telegraph” mentality was so overwhelming investors in Alexander Bell's company only allowed for Bell to work on the telephone as long as he focused on the harmonic telegraph.
He hid his work until a public demonstration.
The investors still wanted the harmonic telegraph. https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1104772217986924544 …
