I’m not actually sure this changes much. It does make Durbin-regulated debit more attractive. But Any wallet will already be trying to get users to use debit cards then stored value. The way you get users to keep stored value is to offer liquidity, rewards, and interest.

I disagree. You’re not the next Visa without merchant services. Venmo integrating into the massive merchant base of PayPal/Braintree makes users more likely to keep balance there. Squares merchant penetration skews SMB, which is a disadvantage here.
