I think it as the right strategy but the timing is odd. They appear to be keeping their vertical strategy with their unique services but expanding their horizontal strategy with commodity services, such as video and music.

Daniel, Indeed. It is important to understand that Apple Music streaming service is a net loss to Apple. Every song that is played is a residual paid to the artist. Thus if one were to pay $9-$14 per month and use Apple Music aggressively and not buy an Apple device = Big Loss.

I don’t think an echo buyer is a HomePod buyer. They are not the same market.

I would like to buy a HomePod and I think many Apple users would at ~$99. Even though Siri isn't as good the ecosystem is worth the $$. How does Homekit fit in? Isn't it a net loss for Apple?

If HomePod didn’t have Siri would you still compare to echo or Sonos sound system?

Sonos, even with Siri I would do that due to cost. It is primarily a music device.

HomePod is all about Music. The confusion by analysts/tech journalists is by adding Siri they are comparing it to Echo instead of the stereo or a Sonos system.

Personally, I think it is a confusing product. It is a high-end speaker built with home automation but is not economical to put many around your home. I think it would have a great 2016 product for audiophiles. The market changed before they could release it.

Even Sonos is adding Alexa but it is still really considered a speaker. If you want primarily Alexa, you buy an Echo or Dot.

More people desire Music than want a smart microphone.

Sanat, agree. However the concepts are not mutually exclusive. #VoiceFirst unlike the very small subset of “smart speaker” is the fastest adopted technology in history. By a very, very large margin. Thus there is that also.pic.twitter.com/XkgoI91hEr
