Assuming Apple can’t get all of TrueDepth under the display this year’s iPhone, what would you prefer in 2019: More “Notch” (right), or switch to “holes” (Spider!) (left)?pic.twitter.com/XNLnQKs4He

Rene, I still assert that if there needs to be a non-continuous front screen on an iPhone, the notch or holes should be at the chin and not the forhead. Our eyes drift to th upper left naturally and even if the lower location has blockage issues it would be better esthetics.

Then the capture angle, like the Xiaomi Mix 2, makes photos/video look really odd

Jose, indeed, however there is wonderful ways to compensate for this issue. From AI to angled imaging chips. It is solvable. Especially by Apple.

I think your thumb would constantly be covering something.

Mike, indeed. This is the potential blockage issue I mentioned. However there is some compelling research that shows users tend to hold an iPhone at the left or right edges with one hand. As the use the device the fingers do indeed cross the chin, just not as often as one thinks.

I thought the notch would be a bigger deal when I upgraded from my 7+ to my Xs in September. Instead, its been a complete non-issue for me. I realize others may have a different opinion...

If you put the notch at the bottom your hand would constantly cover it.

The entire interface of the iPhone was redesigned for the X series of devices utilizing the folded OLED display and thanks to this chinless design, we have such a magical gestural interface at the bottom, where it is most convenient to execute swipes and slides.

There does seem to be an advantage for the camera to be up top: e.g. when taking a photo, the angle is better than if the camera housing were on bottom. Same for Face ID; it gets a better view of your face from the top of the phone.
