Gillian, great point. I suspect it is the content of the talk that has the gestures that are key. Remove the gestures and the talk, even as a transcript is less interesting.

When I was a child my parents thought i “talked with my hands” too much and made me hold my hands behind my back when I spoke until I learned to suppress it
