The idea that 1 or 2 companies will dominate #VoiceFirst comes from the assumption that the AI will not be widely available to startups. The reality is once the neural networks are codified into an ASIC, anyone can build on top of what today takes large centralized data centers.https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele/status/1061274387595161601 …

AI aside, can’t a few players still dominate the space by leveraging their platform advantage? Easier to build a skill than to ship custom hardware. And users will come to expect seamless compatibility with their primary assistant.

Lucas, great point. Indeed in some use cases this may be true m, however the AI on a chip world will be many times larger. They will be everywhere.

Within 10 years just about all the AI functionality and uses cases in 2018 of Alexa and Google Home will be encompassed on a single chip with the need of very limited access to the Internet, just for data points. Cost <$2. The surprise will be who will build this chip.
