This kind of thing happens a lot. It happens to almost every popular science writer. As a result, much of what folks enjoy reading doesn't earn the original author money or followers, and folks wonder why Internet journalism is so bad... (end)

So, Inverse gets paid for my work, and I get mocked for an incorrect title I didn't write and didn't approve. So thanks for that, (9)

The Inverse article hit Reddit news, and is getting rather popular. All that Reddit traffic goes to Inverse, they get all the ad money, and they didn't write the article. At the bottom of the article they link back to Universe Today, not my site (8)

Based on your screenshot, the title you mocked seems to be either from who scraped my article from Universe Today and changed the title, or some other site that scraped it from Inverse. (5)

Here's where it gets interesting. A ton of sites scrape original articles for there sites. They don't create new work, they simply repost work for ad money. To make their post look original, they give the article a new title (4)

Now, the one website that has direct permission from me to use the article, is Universe Today, which used the title "Matter From Light. Physicists Create Matter and Antimatter by Colliding Just Photons." Since I work with UT, I can ensure an accurate title. (3)

The original version of this article is on my website: Folks can read it there with no ads or any other fluff. My title was "Let There Be Rock," since the work was the creation of matter, rather than light. (2)

Good news: The plot is coming together. Bad news: I can't use my chalkboard for the usual to-do lists for a while, and that ticks me off.

I've been getting a flurry of hate mail recently, and it has me thinking about how we really should be supporting young and diverse writers who are just starting out. If I find the hate mail draining, I can only imagine how much harder it is for them.
