Also, I should issue a bit of a correction - I was excited & misspoke during the podcast & said that when sediments are settling out in a river channel clays settle out first - thats suuper wrong! Clays settle out last! which is why they end up on banks & in drying river bottoms.

Fwiw, the wattle I've drawn on my would be above the heads of the largest predators in the Late . Giant sauropods were BIG, & in the Morrison they were crazy diverse. Throat/head displays are super common among modern dinos, esp. large ones w/ long necks.

You're not wrong - many modern dinosaurs (birds) attack each other's colorful display structures. Male frigate birds actually try to pop eachother's inflato-wattles: Therefor a dino with an in-tact wattle/crest/tail plume etc is a strong/capable mate.

I’m a big fan of speculative structures on sauropods; I personally like the idea that they used their necks and tails as huge ‘billboards’ for display. That being said, that wattle makes me uncomfortable

4/....we are thankful for all the help we have received with this project. It was also a lot of fun to spend time in the field with our friends excavating something none of us ever thought we would see in the field! Thank you to

Mom Brag: The kids found a piece of float bone off to the side when we were excavating the & my daughter led that part of the dig with the Bartlett kids. She showed the kids what to do & we supervised the whole operation off to the side. I was really proud of her!

Our big story of the day is this amazing Brachiosaurus humerus found back in May. This past October John and our family went out and collected it. It was exciting to work on one. Stay tuned for photos!

A few people have heard of Brachiosaurus, and think it's neat. It's even been in some movies and stuff. Turns out, despite it being discovered in the year 1900, we still know VERY little about it...
