I don’t know if the study in question is fatally flawed, or worse. But nothing rests on it. The remaining evidence points in the same direction. Can the public track the evidentiary signal through the noise of a fraud allegation? Time will tell.https://grftr.news/why-was-a-major-study-on-ivermectin-for-covid-19-just-retracted/ …

Meta-analysis is highly susceptible to garbage in, garbage out. There is a heirarchy of evidence, the reason being to try to counter bias which is one error humans are very incapable of controlling. Evidence based medicine is not top trumps.

Unless the studies included in the meta analysis are flawed. In which case they amplify error. Which is what happened with ivermectin.

I disagree Brett. Meta analysis are highly malleable. IOW, the researchers have too many degrees of freedom when interpreting the data. You can readily have two groups with the same studies coming to different conclusions. Recommend:https://www.amazon.com/Medical-Nihilism-Jacob-Stegenga/dp/0198747209 …

With meta-analysis, it's GIGO. Garbage in, garbage out. RCTs still the best.https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199708213370806 …

This is true only when the RCTs are poorly designed, executed and analyzed. That was the whole point of many scientists pointing to the poor quality in many of those studies used in the meta-analysis. Garbage in, garbage out.
-
Exactly. Meta-analysis trades some biases with RCT for biases of its own: publication bias, sample bias, search bias.
