If I understand the case, Patreon was clear, and Carl/Sargon was off site, so he didn't violate the TOS. To the extent he crossed a line of etiquette, he apparently did it challenging racists and homophobes with their own terminology. The rise of the #TechTyrants is upon us.https://twitter.com/michaelshermer/status/1072159145803927553 …

Regarding deplatforming Carl Benjamin, AKA Sargon of Akkad by Twitter & Patreon, not a 1st Amen. issue but private companies should specify what speech they deem unacceptable in their Terms of Service. That's quite the way to whitewash that he used the n-word to insult people. And apparently you haven't read their terms of service. Pretty clear in their code of conduct that it applies to posts across all social media

it says a lot that when one has to actually explain in vivid detail to certain people why saying things like "n****r" is a violation of TOS

His claim that their TOS doesn't apply to off site behaviour is the exact opposite of what they've said too. They're basically a payment processor. If their TOS didn't apply to off site behavior then the KKK could have a Patreon account

All social media platforms that I’m aware of billed themselves as platforms for speech, as they obviously are, and repeatedly attested to their commitment to the principle of free speech. That’s plainly different than a restaurant

I know it's not fashionable to argue for greater state intervention, but we simply can't allow the tech giants to decide who gets to have a voice on the internet. They seem more than willing to exercise their political bias when choosing to enforce and apply their rules.
