Sorry, but this frequent anti-Humanities rhetoric from her is ignorant and boorish, not to mention plain ridiculous.

-
Are you sure?
-
Yep, sure. Just because there are some bad academics is no reason to paint Humanities as a subject as bad.
-
I hear ya. However, I don't think it's unreasonable to make reasonable summations of problems which are considered (by some w/in the IDW) to be both widespread and having profoundly negative impact.
@jordanbpeterson speaks to this concern often & summarizes it well. -
I find it strange because Peterson himself is very much a Humanities type scholar, see his Bible lectures for instance. I think this rhetoric gives the wrong idea.
-
@jordanbpeterson speaks to it in greater detail. And he does so quite frequently. I even heard him talking about creating some type of humanities offerings online as a means of offsetting some of his concerns with the field. I am sure you can find something on YouTube from him. -
He doesn’t like what they have become. He staunchly against activist studies like feminust studies.
-
The humanities are teaching negativity, and some degrees are ridiculous. Graduates will land a good paying, public sector job to promote more social justice, but, the ones who really suffer from inequality gain zero benefits, except from the exceptionally marginalized SJW's.

Kinda like when anti-vaxx websites get criticism. When anti-vaxxers and Quillette are over the target, and get criticism ... the clear conclusion is double down on the epistemic closure.

this is literally the fucking Ali G video game strategy of "if you're encountering enemies, you're heading in the right direction", but okay Bret. who the hell are you throwing down with?

people who know how to listen to critique instead of labeling every negative article about them a hit piece. do y'all really think this myopic shit talk is useful beyond tribal drum beating? it would seem that you can't hear the folks laughing at you outside of your bubble.

That's such a beautiful analogy :)
-
If one were a civilian in Dresden 1943 looking up their feelings might not have been so sanguine.
-
You just demonstrated exactly his point :))
-
No not really. If one is going to be using an analogy of bombing then you accept the arguments for bombing as a whole. You must establish a moral justification for it. In many cases it can be, but you must also justify the cost.
-
We probably agree on bombing. Are you comfortable with the non aggression principle?
-
It can work and does work when scaled up to say international treaties, though not always. I find the lower one goes on the population numbers the less well it scales.
-
So for example it would be OK for the UK to base its laws and policing objectives on?
