Wish @BretWeinstein would explicitly and at length clarify where he takes issue with EvoPsych. Most all of his views about culture strike me as pretty close to those of his graduate advisor, Richard D. Alexander, whose work, as far as I can tell, coheres quite well with EvoPsych.https://twitter.com/BretWeinstein/status/1018933619123896320 …

Is it possible though that because evolutionary psychology is biologically reductive (by definition) that it is limited in terms of what it can actually elucidate about human psychology, which is an emergent and requires a more complex analysis?
-
I like evolutionary psychology & the findings r interesting - but also often simplistic & overly broad. Example: Men r more sexually jealous, women more emotionally jealous. Okay, but give me one actual human person (e.g. a therapy client) & the complexity will skyrocket.
-
I would've thought that the case of jealousy illustrates the exact opposite point, characteristic of EvoPsych: namely, introducing complexity ignored by non-Darwinian perspectives: https://labs.la.utexas.edu/buss/files/2018/03/Sexual-and-Emotional-Infidelity-PPS-2018.pdf …

Sometime I'd like to hear knowledgeable people discuss the difference between discoveries in EvoPsych and just-so stories that sound reasonable.
