The parts of this where you engage with art and aesthetics are so interesting. The parts where you moan about "liberal ideology" are as boring/reactionary/useless as the "liberal ideology" you find so boring.

You moaning about Bret's moaning about "Liberal ideology" is even more boring.
-
Oh no, how will we end this Sisyphean cycle of moaning about moaning?
-
@BretEastonEllis, is an artist, talking about out how "liberal ideology" is affecting art, specifically film. That is the purpose of his podcast. -
Yeah, that’s a shame, as I said. He used to be more interesting than that. It’s just funny, given that he professes to find aesthetics more interesting than politics—turns out only SOME politics interest him. Again, a shame. But no worries, you do you! Enjoy that podcast, Ry Ry!

Ideology is the least artistic thing you can do, it’s about control and art is about letting go.
-
Agreed. Art is created organically. Ideology artificially inseminated into art is transparent and quickly becomes anti-art.
-
Have you read ‘Ideology and Ideological State Apparatuses’? Or anyone else on ideology, for that matter? I don’t know who guys like you read but you might find that ideology is slipperier than that.

I can’t help but disagree about Tully. That fantastical ending makes the whole movie worth it. Without that twist the film is a too-real family drama. The end revelation elevates it from good to great.
-
The twist was great but the sentimental coming together was a bit much.

If we were in the 70's would Bret be defending Nixon from all those horrible funny people making fun of Tricky Dicky's speech and cadence too? "unfunny Trump jokes?", stop it. The wig wearing traitor is getting what he deserves.

I just wanted to comment on how great this podcast is when
@BretEastonEllis isn’t parroting right-wing propaganda. Stick to the movie critiques and leave the right wing straw man arguments out of it.
