10 year-old interview where I said Andrea Arnold and Floria Sigismondi made my fav movies that year--where were other female filmmakers? Drunkenly went on dumb "provocative" rant which I've dismantled many times on the BEE podcast with Karyn Kusama, Rose McGowan, IIIeana Douglas.pic.twitter.com/n9S9wRrIMg

Wow. That interview is pretty terrible. I understand that you're talking from the perspective of "dismantling" it, but what a jarring and disappointing read.

I had to return to this because something kept nagging at me, and I finally pinpointed it. Your uncritical presentation of this is not ok. You may “dismantle” your sexist responses on a podcast, but you don’t do that here. Instead, you blame alcohol and the desire to be edgy.

Look at the other responses. People have shrugged at your dismissal of those women. You can’t change the past, but you can use your platform to decisively advocate for what is right. Clearly it’s hard, but I think it’s necessary, and I say this as a woman who loves your work.

Speaking of that podcast...would love to hear another, as I (for one) love the BEE monologues that kick them off. Also, FWIW, I think the beginning of "Lunar Park" is maybe the most compelling intro to a novel I've ever read. Coincidence?

To me alot of authors seem to rush their endings. Lunar Park was the exception. Thought provoking, poetic and reflecting. I Couldn't agree with you anymore regarding the beginning.

The ending is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. Trance and tears. Re-reading during upcoming trip to J Tree this spring.

I haven't read any of his (Bret's) work yet. I've sorta lived under a rock most my life. (Long story) I think the interview excerpt is intriguing, iama- he'd obviously considered the male/female differences in the human psychi/ego; an aspect of human interaction I'm studying now

WE NEED YOU BACK. You are film podcasting. Period. Your voice is so important in this realm. I refuse to listen to un-read millennial film podcasters talking about the identity politics infused in films and not the films themselves. F the snowflakes and the pearl clutchers.
