The DGA Nominations: GET OUT, LADY BIRD and THE SHAPE OF WATER are actually better directed movies than Paul Thomas Anderson's PHANTOM THREAD?!? Or is ideology trumping aesthetics? I hope not.pic.twitter.com/1xaKSLD8S6

You've become one of your own ridiculous satirical shallow characters in your books. (The movie was better btw) aesthetic over ideology?

For years Hollywood has been favouring movies with political agendas then proceed to get awards for solely their moral social awareness (idealism) over the non discriminatory "aesthetic" substance of the films themselves. Bret has been talking about this for years on his podcast

Brett, like similar ideologues as himself tend to only focus on the symptoms and not the cause. Why does he only focus on Hollywood rather than international films? We all know what really lies behind the motives of Hollywood,..profit. awards are beyond meaningless to artists.

His podcast sounds extremely uninteresting & unimportant. Can you link me to one episode in which he specifically speaks on this issue?

you will have to sign up with podcast 1 to see the earlier episodes . but he was stating his opinion dude .. everything is subjective.. He's a film maker and is entitled to give his takes on things .. move on if he bothers you .

last of the mohicans was on the other day. nothing in the last 20 years has matched the last 20 minutes of that mother fucker. lady bird's gonna win director just so they can give it to a women. the directing in that film was nonexistent (along with an actual plot).

have seen all four, and can confirm that all four are excellent. The Shape of Water has one major, glaring hole. Get Out is the most relevant & impactful. Lady Bird is the funniest & quirkiest. Phantom Thread is the most complex & requires further viewing to grasp hidden elements

i wonder what Mr.Ellis has to say about formerly brilliant friends of his, like Marilyn Manson, who have joined the groupthink PC brigade. its crazy to me. Donald Trump is the new Marilyn Manson style insurgent - and Manson is the new Democrat

I miss the way movies use to be filmed. They had a different look, a warm feeling. Every once in a while I'm on a set that actually uses film in there camera, and I smile.

What liberal ideology does The Shape of Water espouse? Free love for fish people? Is that a new social justice campaign? Dunkirk and Three Billboards also. What multicultural ideologies r in those? If you’re going to be loutish, at least be consistent.
