Agreed! True! And also bad! But its striking that, statistically, we're sinking towards (and not yet past) the norm in, say, Europe. Which is bad! Housing should be more available, which we should achieve by building lots more of it, in places people want to live.

I dunno if the american dream style of endless suburbia is a particularly good model. I'd prefer the US to be closer to Europe in housing style, with more compact and less polluting households.
