As a non-american, the idea that December 7th is a “day that shall live in infamy”, compared to, say, August 6th? Is fucking blasphemous.
I'm not saying that WW2 began in 1941 or that nothing important or infamous happened earlier. But the "date which will live in infamy" is a direct FDR quote. And the date does live in infamy.
I know it is. It’s just excessively american. Surprise attack on a military target, which, effectively, missed. (The other date is Hiroshima.)
Unsurprisingly, Americans are apt to play up injustices inflicted upon them than their disproportionate response. And their voice is extremely loud, especially in Anglophone spaces.
