My Global History of Warfare student are taking their final on the day that, 80 years later, still lives in Infamy. I'm sure the Romans would have considered this an ill-omened day, a dies nefastus on which no important business could take place.

I know it is. It’s just excessively american. Surprise attack on a military target, which, effectively, missed. (The other date is Hiroshima.)

Unsurprisingly, Americans are apt to play up injustices inflicted upon them than their disproportionate response. And their voice is extremely loud, especially in Anglophone spaces.
