And that was w/ the weaponry of the 1860s. 'But I need to protect my family from <whatever>' - then vote, protest, organize, convince people (& accept that democracy means sometimes you lose). The only thing a civil war is gonna do is get you and your family killed.
I think the only real problem comes in when you have a clear faction of people who are more than happy to destroy universal representative democracy in favor of some sort of dictatorship or monarchy. Like we saw on January the 6th
And I want those people to understand the choice isn't between their guy or democracy, but between democracy or the utter ruination of the country, including the parts of it where they live.
One of the side effects of long periods of domestic peace is that people start taking the preconditions of it for granted.
“I’m so glad we had that civil war” say the people from zero countries that recently had or are still having civil wars.
Same applies to leftists longing for “the revolution” (which in the US would be won by the same side that won the Spanish Civil War).
Probably for a lot of the same reasons, too!
Not sure how applicable this advice is to people whose families are already getting killed by the status quo.
